ISLAMABAD: The contempt case against State Minister Tallal Chaudhry on Monday was adjourned indefinitely after the bench conducting the proceedings was dissolved.
The three-member bench was dissolved due to the retirement of its head, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.
During the hearing, Justice Ejaz remarked that a complete chance will be given to the minister to defend himself.
At the last hearing, the apex court adjourned the case until Monday after a request made by Chaudhry’s counsel, Kamran Murtaza.
Chaudhry is alleged to have made anti-judiciary remarks earlier this year during a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rally, after which the court had held him in contempt.
A notification issued on February 2 had stated that the PML-N leader had made “derogatory and contemptuous speeches/statements pertaining to the judiciary”, following which proceedings of a contempt of court case were initiated.
The state minister has already been indicted in the case and he has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The next hearing of the case will now be held after the chief justice forms a new bench.
