MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday condemned the attack on Federal Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, but said that violence should not be turned into an excuse for delaying the upcoming elections. He also ruled out an electoral alliance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), especially before the elections.

Interestingly, Bilawal’s father, former president Asif Zardari had recently said that the PPP was open to forming an alliance with the PTI, if the need arises.

Calling for a thorough investigation into the attack on Ahsan Iqbal, Bilawal emphasised on foolproof security for all candidates until the time of elections. He was addressing a gathering in Mandi Bahauddin.

“I think Imran Khan has expressed wishes but there is no constitutional way of delaying the elections,” he said in response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief’s statement on the possibility of delayed elections.

“Those spreading the politics of hate, especially in Punjab, will have an adverse impact on the youth,” said Bilawal, appealing to politicians to engage the youth in a better manner and added, “We have to spread tolerance in the country and only PPP has concentrated on this.”

He also criticised ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent statement’s terming them ‘strange’.

“I think the stance of confrontation taken up by Nawaz to hide the Panama scandal is against the interests of the country and democracy,” said the PPP leader.
