Khalil Tahir Sandhu gives Rs0.5 mn to Yaqub Masih, assures safety of minorities

LAHORE: Provincial Human Rights and Minorities Affairs (HR&MA) Minister Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that the Government of Punjab is committed to protecting the rights of minorities and for this purpose, a number of concrete steps have been taken, besides legislation and the execution of special initiatives.

He stated this during a meeting with Yaqub Masih at his residence while presenting financial aid by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif.

Provincial Minister Manshaullah Butt, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Zulfiqar Ghori, Chaudhary Ikram, Parliamentary Secretary Tariq Masih Gill, Sialkot Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Farukh Naveed, and Sialkot Mayor Toheed Akhtar were also present at the occasion.

Sandhu gave a 5-lakh cheque to the victim’s father and assured him of quick justice with the help of their legal team.

Later, during a media talk, the minister said that the accused had been arrested and a challan had also been presented to the trial court, where hopefully justice will be provided to the Masih family. He said that the government can save many precious lives through the media’s cooperation and thanked them for highlight the case of Asima.
