ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry said on Friday that disqualification of a parliamentarian will be decided by the people.

The minister expressed these views while talking to the media outside the Supreme Court hearing contempt case against him.

The apex court adjourned the case until Monday after a request made by Chaudhry’s counsel, Kamran Murtaza.

The contempt of court case against the state minister is being heard by a three-member bench of the SC and is headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.

Chaudhry is alleged to have made anti-judiciary remarks earlier this year during a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rally, after which the court had held him in contempt.

A notification issued on February 2 stated that the PML-N leader had made “derogatory and contemptuous speeches/statements pertaining to the judiciary”, following which proceedings of a  contempt of court case were initiated.

The state minister has already been indicted in the case and he has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
