Kasur anti-judiciary rally: LHC orders names of six accused be placed on ECL

KASUR: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued the directives of placing names of six people, including two lawmakers, on the Exit Control List (ECL) for protesting in Kasur against the judiciary.

The accused lawmakers include member National Assembly (MNA) Waseem Akhtar and member provincial assembly (MNA) Naeem Safdar.

Kasur Municipal Committee Chairperson Ayaz Khan and Vice Chairperson Ahmed Latif were also present at the court.

During the hearing, the court questioned the whereabouts of Kasur Baitul Maal Chairperson Nasir Mehmood and Market Committee Chairperson Jameel Ahmed. To this, Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) Zahid Nawaz said the two accused have been absconding ever since the protest rally was held.

The court further ordered the DPO to see if the case could be forwarded to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) under the ambit of cybercrime bill, while asking the DPO about the reason the clauses of the cybercrime bill were not added to the FIR [First Information Report].

The hearing was held over the petition submitted by the president of Kasur district bar.

The hearing was adjourned until May 7.

On April 18, over 70 PML-N workers, including the local federal and provincial lawmakers, were booked in two separate cases for their protest against judiciary and state institutions.

The case was filed on the grounds that the protesters had used inappropriate language against the judiciary and other state institutions.
