KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday, while taking notice of the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in Larkana, sought a report on the matter from the district and session court.
Following the order of submitting the report, the court also summoned Larkana Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Ferozuddin Siddiqui and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Larkana Tanveer Hussain Tunio to appear in person on May 7.
On April 25, a day after she went missing, minor victim Saima’s body was found in the pond near Tayyab Hotel along Dodai Road. She was raped, murdered and dumped in a sewage drain from where her lifeless body had found its way to the pond.
Although the police have taken six suspects into custody, the victim’s parents claim that the law enforcement personnel are aiding the accused. “Police are trying to protect rapists and murderers because their actions were trying to save them,” said the dead girl’s father while speaking to the media.
“The body was moved to Chandka Medical Hospital but the post-mortem took around six hours as the concerned doctors were not available,” he further informed.
He said that Saima had briefly left home on the night of April 24 to buy sweets from a nearby tuck shop but did not return. “We searched for her in the neighbourhood and houses of relatives for hours but could not find her,” wept the father.
The parents of the minor had lodged a complaint at the Haideri police station soon after she had gone missing. They blamed the police for losing their child, stating that their daughter might have been saved if the police had acted immediately.
