LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday uttered hateful remarks about the women who attended Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Minar-e-Pakistan rally in Lahore on Sunday.
Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, he said, “The women who attended the rally were not from honourable families because their dance moves implied where they had actually come from.”
He said that PTI is a group of conscienceless people, turncoats, agents of agencies and Imran himself is also an agent.
“Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz will resist against the PTI turncoats at Punjab level while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz will resist them at the national level,” he said.
His misogynistic comments were met with criticism from people from all walks of life.
Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said, “Rana Sanaullah was kicked out of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) by Benzair Bhutto because of his vulgar comments about Maryam Nawaz. Now again he is showing how cheap and retarded he is. Now we have to see if Maryam and Shehbaz Sharif have the guts to kick him out. Unfortunately, he is their Punjab CM in waiting.”
PTI MNA Shireen Mazari said, “So PML-N guttersnipes have come out showing their gutter origins by using filthy language against the women of PTI – from Abid Sher Ali to Talal Chaudhry to Rana Sanaullah and in the footsteps of Khawaja Asif. Can respond the same way about PML-N’s women but will not stoop to gutter level. Let them wallow in their filth.”
Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Executive Council member Marvi Sirmad said, “Rana Sanaullah’s statement about women participating in yesterday’s PTI rally is puke worthy and despicable. PML-N men prove almost every day the misogynist culture of their party and patriarchal character of their own. This entire lot of chauvinist males needs urgent replacement.”
Columnist Yasser Latif Hamdani said, “I hate the PTI but stand with all the women of PTI against the bigoted misogynistic nonsense by Abid Sher Ali and Rana Sanaullah.”
PML-N’s MNA Marvi Memon said, “In politics we must have the courage to condemn all those who use bad language against men or women from any political party and let me repeat such attitudes exist in all parties, not just one. We all are equally to blame. Not just one party.”
Journalist Mansoor Ali Khan wrote on Twitter, “No woman deserves this comment. I hope the women from PML-N would speak out against this.”
Columnist Mehr Tarar tweeted, “Rana Sanaullah has done this many times and it is condemnable without whataboutery. There are no ifs and buts here and that is the way it must be when anyone uses this kind of language for anyone. Be it a politician, an idol, a celebrity, a friend or a family member.”
PTI Chairman Imran Khan also condemned Rana Sanaullah’s remarks against his party’s female members.
He said, “In the past 30 years, these people have always disrespected women, which is against our religion and culture”.
