Zardari-Imran nexus out for power only: Shehbaz

–CM says govt selflessly served people under Nawaz’s leadership

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif Saturday remarked that his political opponents Asif Ali Zardari and Imran Khan Niazi were colluding over power and not public service.

In a statement issued here, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president said, “Zardari and Niazi have joined hands with one another.”

He remarked that the PML-N government made its way into people’s hearts by working for their benefit. “Our service to people and hard work speaks for itself,” he said.

“Our political opponents have done nothing but lie,” he said, alleging that his political rivals had done nothing for the people in their respective provinces.

“People who level allegations should take pity on country’s citizens,” he said.

Separately, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the PML-N government under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif had selflessly served the people and the current four and a half year term of the party was the best in the country’s seventy-year-long history.

Speaking to parliamentarians from Faisalabad and Gujranwala, who called on him, the chief minister said the credit for the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) went to the PML-N and Nawaz Sharif. “Under CPEC, the biggest coal-based power generation projects of the country have been set up,” Shehbaz said and added that the Sahiwal coal power plant and the Port Qasim coal power projects were generating 2700MW of electricity.

PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, provincial ministers and PML-N leaders were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister also said that apart from the power projects under CPEC, the PML-N government had installed a 5000MW power project from its own resources.

Shehbaz also said that national resources were being looted mercilessly and corruption was damaging the country. “Despite the prevailing unfavourable situation, the  GDP ratio is 5.8 per cent, which is the highest within the past 13 years,” said the CM and added the PML-N government had taken revolutionary measures for development and progress in the country besides working for the elimination of poverty and unemployment.

He said the state of uncertainty was not good for the country and they should move forward with unity and harmony.

Addressing the ceremony, Nawaz Sharif said Shehbaz had served the people of Punjab with determination and nobody could serve the people like him.

He acknowledged the chief minister’s hard work and said a huge network of roads, educational institutions and hospitals had been established in Punjab.
