Musharraf says courts should be respected as per law
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government on Saturday requested the special court that is conducting high treason trial of former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf under the Article 6 of the constitution to conclude the much-delayed case without waiting for his attendance.
“It is, therefore, respectfully prayed that this Honourable Court without waiting for the presence of the accused [Musharraf], concludes the trial and pronounces judgment on basis of available record thereby bringing the case to a close,” said the prosecution team.
The three-member bench comprising the Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Yawar Ali, the Balochistan High Court (BHC) judge Tahira Safdar and the Sindh High Court judge Nazar Akbar is hearing the high treason case against Musharraf for subverting the Constitution by imposing an emergency on Nov 3, 2007.
The government maintained that a speedy trial would not only serve the interest of Musharraf, but of all the stakeholders including the citizens of Pakistan.“Needless to say that this trial being unprecedented will set the tenor for any future trials of high treason,” it added.
COURTS TO BE RESPECTED ACCORDING TO CONSTITUTION:
Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said that courts should be given respect according to the law and constitution.
Addressing a lawyers’ gathering at Rawalpindi District Bar Conical through a video link from Dubai, the former president said that there is no place for poor in Pakistan.
‘’Pakistan in 2007 was on top, our economy was growing, health condition was improved, the dollar was under control. Tell me that where do we stand after 10 years? These leaders have destroyed Pakistan from inside. Lawyers should come out to save country. I am very depressed on the current situation of Pakistan,’’ he said.
‘’I have no issue to appearing before the court, fake cases are being made against me, I will come and face the court,’’ he added.
He said that the country is heading towards disaster due to the policies of the current leadership.
