SEOUL: North and South Korea have agreed to work together in order to achieve “complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula”.
North Korea’s Kim Jong-un and South Korea’s Moon Jae-in made the announcement after holding talks at the border on Friday.

The two countries have also agreed to transform the 1953 armistice into a peace treaty this year.
“We are at a starting line today, where a new history of peace, prosperity and inter-Korean relations is being written,” said Kim before the talks.

North and South Korea have had tense relations since the war in 1953.
Tensions reached their peak after US President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un traded nuclear threats against each other recently but a flurry of diplomatic activity coupled with North Korea’s pledge to denuclearise have raised the prospects of a resolution to the conflict.
