LAHORE: Immigration authorities at Allama Iqbal International Airport stopped the players of national table tennis from travelling abroad on Wednesday night for an international competition, the sources stated.

The team, comprises Aisha Iqbal, Fatima Khan, Mahmoodah, Asim Qureshi, and Ramiz Hussain, was reportedly flying to Sweden via foreign airline to take part in 2018 World Team Table Tennis Championships being held from April 29 to May 6, 2018.

Both immigration staff and Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) personnel stopped the team, the sources said.

One of the players stated that they were stopped from travelling for not having a letter of confirmation from the Ministry of Interior.

Meanwhile, sources have claimed that the incident happened due to “grouping” in the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation.
