MOSCOW: Russia said on Wednesday that it expected to sign a deal with India this year on the sale of S-400 surface-to-air missiles, the Interfax news agency reported.
It cited Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation as saying that all the technical aspects of the contract had been agreed and a price just needed to be decided.
“I think that in the current year we will sign the corresponding contract document,” Interfax quoted Dmitry Shugaev, the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, as saying.
In service with the Russian forces since 2007, the S-400 is one of the most advanced air defense systems in the world.
Meanwhile, Russia plans to deliver new air defence systems to Syria in the near future as well , RIA news agency cited Russia’s Defence Ministry as saying on Wednesday.
The ministry added it plans to study a US Tomahawk cruise missile captured by Syrian forces in a recent attack, in order to improve Russia’s own missiles, RIA reported.
