ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the High Education Commission (HEC) is all set to leave for Malaysia, with the recently retired HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed also being a part of the delegation, it was learnt.
Sources informed Pakistan Today that the HEC delegation will probably leave for Malaysia on May 1 for six days, and will attend important conferences besides holding meetings with Malaysia officials.
They said that Dr Mukhtar will also accompany the delegation despite the fact that he has no relevance to the commission after his retirement.
An official, however, said that since the visit is sponsored by British High Commission and not by the HEC, the former HEC chairman can be a part of the delegation.
It is to be noted that a 25-member delegation of HEC is already on a visit to Turkey and another delegation would leave on May 1.
Sources informed that the HEC delegation will also include HEC Media Director Aayesha Ikram and Mehmoodul Hassan among others.
When contacted, Aayesha Ikram said that Dr Mukhtar Ahmed is not a part of the delegation for Going Global Conference to be held in Malaysia. She, however, refused to disclose the names of the officials attending the conference and said that the nominations await the approval, so it is not possible to share the names.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, who retired on April 13 after completing his four years tenure as HEC chairman, is still among the top contenders for the slot despite the fact the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sought explanation regarding his first appointment as HEC chairman.
