QUETTA: At least seven security personnel were martyred while 15 others sustained injuries in three suicide attacks near a Frontier Corps (FC) camp in the Mian Gundi area near the western bypass, as well as on a police van on the city’s Airport Road on Tuesday.

According to reports, one of the suicide bombers opened fire at the gate of FC 64 Camp. As personnel of the security forces acquired positions to respond back to the attack, the bomber blew himself up. The blast was followed by another suicide attack as the security personnel approached the dead suicide bomber near the camp’s gate. Two security personnel were martyred and eight others were injured in the explosions.

The twin blasts were followed by another attack on a police van at the Airport Road, in which five police personnel were martyred, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The injured and the dead were later shifted to the Civil Hospital Quetta. Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Quetta, namely Dr Arbab Kamran, confirmed the casualties.

Civil Hospital spokesperson Wasim Baig later confirmed that eight injured were brought to the hospital and were being treated by Dr Kamran and his team.

The bomb disposal squad also reached the two sites and started their investigation. The sites have been cordoned off by security forces.

It merits mention here that earlier in January, at least seven people were killed in a suicide attack on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road when a suicide bomber targeted a parked police truck. Around 16 people were also injured in the attack.
