NA body criticises minorities’ commission for rejecting its suggestions: report

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Religious Affairs took serious notice of a resolution passed by National Commission for Minorities (NCM) which rejected its proposal, reported a local English newspaper.

The committee’s meeting headed by Shagufta Jumani was briefed by one of its members, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Ali Mohammad Khan about the development of several bills forwarded by the MNAs regarding the structure of the commission for minorities rights.

The committee was informed that current NCM was established in 1990 through an executive order. Headed by the minister for religious affairs,  it still does not hold any legal status nor has the government formed any rules for it.

Khan told the committee that instead of discussing the bills regarding it, the so-called NCM has rejected the recommendations by the committee.

“This is an insult to the Parliament. How can a body simply disapprove the proposals of the committee?” he asked.

“Are you the 111 Brigade, taking directions to bulldoze parliament?”
