Tribal elders spring into action to pacify PTM leaders: report

LANDI KOTAL: A six-member delegation of Fata parliamentarians and tribal elders met with leaders of Pakhtun Tahafuz Movement in Peshawar on April 18 to pacify PTM’s fierce criticism of government and security institutions and also persuade them to desist from holding more public meetings.

Sources privy to the first meeting between PTM representatives and tribal elders told this scribe that the talks were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere in a private building on Ring Road in Peshawar.

The delegation was headed by MNA Haji Shahji Gul, who was assisted by MNA Mirajud Din and two tribal elders Malak Waris Khan from Khyber Agency and Malak Nasrullah Khan from North Waziristan. Names of the PTM leaders other than Manzoor Pashteen could not be ascertained.

“Though the talks were held in a very cordial atmosphere yet very little headway was made in the initial contact,” sources said.

They added that both sides agreed to meet again on April 25, possibly at the residence of MNA Haji Shahji Gul in Jamrud.
