ISLAMABAD: In a rare show of unanimity of views, Pakistani and Russian inter-ministerial level delegations have discussed regional connectivity and the prospects of closer cooperation in the fields of space, defence, security, economy and trade, cybersecurity as well as intelligence-sharing.
The talks took place in Moscow as a high-level inter-ministerial delegation led by Lt Gen (r) Nasser Khan Janjua, National Security Adviser of Pakistan, visited Russia last week.
This was the first-ever inter-ministerial delegation-level talks led by the national security advisers of Russia and Pakistan as the meetings discussed common strategies on the prospects of mutual cooperation between the two friendly states.
Pakistani delegation visited Moscow from April 22 to April 23 on the invitation of Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
Led by Gen Nasser Janjua, the delegation included senior representatives comprising federal secretaries, additional secretaries and major generals from the National Security Division, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence Production, Strategic Plans Division, Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and Intelligence.
The Russian side was led by Nikolai Patrushev and comprised commander-in-chief of land forces of the Russian Federation, senior representatives from the Russian Security Council, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rosoboron Export, Federal Security Services, Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation and Ros Cosmos.
NSA of Pakistan gave an elaborate presentation to the bilateral forum on trends of global power politics. He shared his strategic thinking about evolving security challenges around the globe with a particular focus on the region.
Gen Janjua also highlighted the common opportunities for Russia and Pakistan at the talks. Regional connectivity and prospects of closer cooperation in the fields of space, defence, security, economy & trade, cybersecurity and intelligence-sharing remained the main focus of the delegation-level talks.
The talks were followed by a one-on-one meeting between the National Security Advisers of Pakistan and Russia.
During the meetings, both the sides expressed their satisfaction at the positive trajectory and progression of mutual relationship at bilateral and multilateral levels including Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the United Nations.
The two sides reiterated to continue to work together for further improvement in the relationship and to seek enduring peace and stability in the region.
