KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Monday said that the prime minister has given the approval of provision of 190 mmcfd gas to the Karachi-Electric (KE) for solving the load shedding issue in Karachi after which KE must fulfill its duty of supplying uninterrupted supply of electricity in Karachi so that citizens could get some relief in this hot weather and during coming month of Ramadan.
He said this while addressing a press conference in his office on Monday which was attended by the city council parliamentary leader Aslam Shah Afridi, Law Committee Chairman Arif Khan, Finance Committee Chairman Nadeem Hidayat, Media Management Committee Chairperson Sabheen Ghori, Medical Committee Chairperson Naheed Fatima, Estate Committee Chairman Nasir Khan Taimuri and other representatives and officers.
Karachi mayor on this occasion thanked the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, his cabinet and the Punjab Shehbaz Sharif Chief Minister for providing help in solving the issue of load shedding in Karachi which he said has made life difficult making it extremely difficult to perform day to day tasks.
He said that he met with the Lahore mayor and the Punjab chief minister during the Lahore visit and apprised them of the situation in Karachi asking to play his role in solving this problem.
He said that we have done everything to the best of our abilities now it is up to the KE and the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to fulfill their responsibility and get the citizens rid of the present dilemma.
He warned that if nothing is done to resolve the energy crisis on an urgent basis, it may consequently disturb the security situation in the city.
He informed that that he had discussed the matter with KE during the recent protest that was held at the KE’s head office and told the officials not to punish the whole Karachi by citing the reason of electricity theft in the city and ensure proper supply of power to all those consumers who pay their full bill on time.
He said KMC and KE still have various outstanding issues between each other including payment of dues, but the matters are in courts and we hope that all such issues will be solved too.
