Govt, opposition to finalise name of caretaker PM soon: Ahsan Iqbal

NAROWAL: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Sunday that consultation between the government and the opposition is underway to finalise the name for the caretaker prime minister (PM).

Talking to media persons in Narowal, Ahsan Iqbal expressed his hope that consensus on the name of the caretaker prime minister would be reached soon. The minister urged all the democratic forces to jointly finalise a non-controversial name for the top slot.

He said all powers would be shifted to the caretaker government after initiation of the electoral process. Morality should not be compromised while criticising each other in politics, he added.

He said political parties of the country would have to go through this phase with responsibility as the enemies of Pakistan would attempt to destabilise the country.

“The political parties should work towards creating an environment of tolerance and harmony,” he added.

Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq forwarded a proposal suggesting the name of prominent scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan as the caretaker PM.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after days deliberation and consultation within the party circles had finally consented on three names for the caretaker PM, including former commerce minister Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Justice (r) Tasadduq Jilani and former State Bank of Pakistan Governor Dr Ishrat Hussain.
