LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday announced that he would hear Christian blasphemy convict Aasia Bibi’s appeal against her death sentence and directed the Punjab Police to restore police security to her counsel.

Justice Nisar asked the Punjab advocate general to consult the Punjab Inspector General of Police and restore security protocol of Advocate Saiful Malook who is representing Aasia Bibi and four other blasphemy accused. Malook was also the prosecutor in the Salmaan Taseer assassination case.

During the hearing, the CJP said he personally knows Saiful Malook and his case for seeking police security is genuine.

“Be ready as your appeal in Aasia Bibi [case] is going to be fixed soon as I myself will preside the bench,” he told the lawyer.

The CJP further said that all criminal appeals in SC will be decided by July.

The counsel had earlier told a local media outfit that he would move an application in the apex court, seeking direction for providing him security.
