Sindh LG secretary’s assistant remanded into NAB custody

KARACHI: The arrested Sindh LG secretary’s assistant Ramzan Solangi was remanded into physical custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday after a large sum of cash and other valuables were recovered from his possession a day earlier.

Sources revealed that during the search operation conducted at his residence in Karachi, the accused had confessed to keeping illegal assets. The NAB team of Karachi chapter recovered cash worth Rs 31.5 million – including Pakistani and foreign currency.

Other items recovered from Solangi’s possession include prize bonds worth Rs 18,43,000, 100 tolas of gold bars, gold ornaments, precious watches and other valuable assets along with certain documents

Inside sources privy to the development unearthed that the accused had admitted collecting millions of rupees as monthly bribes from various departmental heads after the preliminary interrogations and recovery of certain documents.

They added that he had been running a gang of such individuals actively involved in working for the influentials accused of causing misappropriation in the local government’s funds and departments.

It was also claimed that the crackdown was likely to lead to further recovery of assets and arrests.

On Wednesday, Karachi office of NAB, after a series of raids conducted over the period of past two days, arrested two accused persons, including Establishment Director of West Karachi District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Javed Qamar and Solangi.

Javed Qamar was further remanded in physical custody by a local accountability court.

It has been alleged in investigation against Qamaruddin Shaikh that he had been accumulating illegal assets by the misuse of his authority and corruption, which is handled by Javed Qamar, his front man, on his behalf.
