PESHAWAR: Complying with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar’s orders pertaining to excessive security measures, provinces have started calling back personnel deployed for the security of non-entitled influential individuals.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Salahuddin Mehsud, appearing before the chief justice, informed the court that the provincial police has withdrawn the security protocol of influential individuals under court orders.

CJP Nisar was hearing a case pertaining to the provision of police personnel to influential individuals for security duties.

“Security provided to influential individuals has been withdrawn,” Mehsud told the court. He also presented a report on the issue to the chief justice, upon which he earned praised by the top judge.

Speaking to the media outside the Peshawar registry of the Supreme Court (SC), the province’s top law-enforcer said that the police force takes impartial action.

“We worked all night after the CJP’s orders. 1,769 security officials have been called back. Previously, 900 were withdrawn,” he added.

On Thursday, CJP Nisar had directed police chiefs of all provinces to withdraw within 24 hours the security protocol provided to influential individuals not entitled to official security.

CJP Nisar had questioned KP IGP regarding the number of personnel deployed on personal security duties.

“How many personnel and vehicles of the KP police are engaged for the security of influential individuals?” CJP Nisar had asked Mehsud who appeared before the court.

The chief justice also said that he respects the sacrifices of the KP police during the war on terror, but influential individuals should arrange for their security privately. CJP Nisar also praised Salahuddin Mehsud for his sacrifices in the war on terror and told him that he has complete confidence in him.

Meanwhile, the personnel deployed for the security of the Sharif family in Jati Umra were called back.

Implementing the orders, 54 elite security forces personnel were called back from Jati Umra, whereas the police also called back 25 of its personnel from the Sharif family’s security.

It is worth noting that excessive security was called-off soon after the disqualification of former premier Nawaz Sharif, while more personnel, deployed for the security of Jati Umra, were now called to report back.
