LAHORE: A special event to commemorate the 80th death anniversary of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal will be hosted at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal complex, here in the city today.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar will preside over the event while the chief guest will be Justice (r) Mohtarma Nasira Javaid Iqbal.
Organised by the Aiwan-e-Iqbal complex chaired by senior journalist and analyst Arif Nizami, the event is being held to honour the work and services of Allama Iqbal to the creation and ideology of Pakistan, and his role in the Pakistan Movement.
The event is expected to have a high turnout where a number of prominent speakers are expected to talk about the enduring influence of Iqbal and his work, as well as the importance of Iqbal in the creation and ideology of Pakistan.
Among the speakers will be Zia Shahid, Sajad Mir, Hamid Mir and Ahmad Javaid, who are all set to speak at the event which will honour the late poet eight decades after his passing.
The chief justice is also expected to speak in his role as the president of the event and will comment on the legacy that the poet of the east has left behind and what is to be gained from his example and his work.
