BAHAWALPUR: All Parties Conference (APC) of mainstream political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Thursday urged the government, parliament and all other stakeholders to restore Bahawalpur province.
The APC attended by leaders and activists of several political parties rejected the idea of induction of Bahawalpur into proposed south Punjab suggested by certain political quarters.
The APC issued a declaration that people of Bahawalpur have been facing injustice for a long period.
Speaking at the APC, JI leader Dr Waseem Akhtar said that the resolution supporting the restoration of the new province was moved in the Punjab Assembly 16 times during last five years, but
some elements have always put hurdles in the passage of the resolution.
PML-Q General Secretary and Member National Assembly Chaudhary Tariq Bashir Cheema said that the resolution of issues and problems confronted by people of Bahawalpur region lay only in restoration of the province.
Former parliamentarian Tabish Aluri said that it is the need of hour to restore Bahawalpur province. JUI-F Punjab General Secretary Mufti Mazhar Asadi said that they rejected idea of induction of Bahawalpur region into proposed south Punjab province. “JUI-F supports demand for restoration of Bahawalpur province,” he said.
PPP leader and ex-parliamentarian Malik Habib Bhutta said that no one would be allowed to exploit rights of people of Bahawalpur. “PPP wants restoration of Bahawalpur province,” he opined.
