KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed police to take all-out measures to ensure the recovery of the children who were kidnapped or went missing.

A division bench was hearing a petition filed by an NGO filed in 2012, seeking court directives to the Sindh police for considering the missing children cases a cognizable offense and registering cases in this regard.

During the hearing, the parents of two more children approached the court for the recovery of their children. The court was informed that six-year-old girl Mursaleen was kidnapped from Quaidabad whereas Kashif, 5, was abducted from Nazimabad. The whereabouts of both children are still unknown, the parents apprised the court.

The police informed the court that efforts are being made to recover all the kidnapped and missing children.

The petition was instituted by NGO ‘Roshni Research and Development Welfare’, stating that cases of missing children are not properly investigated which results in many children losing their lives.

Earlier, the inspector general police had submitted a report and informed the court that six out of 19 children had been recovered, however, the law enforcers were still clueless about remaining children.

Putting off the matter till May 08, the court directed the provincial law officer to come up with the arguments in the next hearing.
