— Arrests 40 PML-N workers including two councilors
KASUR: The Kasur police on Wednesday registered two separate cases against lawmakers and workers of the ruling-Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for allegedly abusing the Supreme Court (SC) and security agencies.
As per the details, PML-N Member National Assembly (MNA) Sheikh Waseem Akhtar and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Naeem Safdar Ansari organised a rally after the disqualification of former premier Nawaz Sharif by the SC, in which the PML-N leaders and workers made derogatory remarks against state institutions while also abusing the apex court and security agencies.
The rally having less than a hundred people started from Shahbaz Khan Road and concluded at Kashmir Chowk.
The matter was highlighted by media, on which the higher authorities took notice and Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Captain (r) Arif Nawaz ordered Kasur DPO Zahid Nawaz for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the MNA, the MPA and other workers who participated in the rally.
On Wednesday, the police registered two separate FIRs – under sections 166, 506, 341, 228, 109, 147, 148 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) – against 80 people and arrested 40 including two councilors. The cases were registered on the applications of Advocate Major (r) Habibur Rehman and Constable Abdul Rasheed.
While reports of the police subjecting the arrested PML-N leaders to torture have also been received, the A-division police raided the houses of MNA Sheikh Waseem Akhtar and MPA Naeem Safdar Ansari, but both the lawmakers had already fled.
DPO Zahid Nawaz Marawat told Pakistan Today that a team had been constituted under the supervision of SP investigation for the arrest of the accused that were still on the loose. The DPO further said the order of the IGP would be implemented at any cost.
