ISLAMABAD: Disqualified premier Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday stressed the need for respecting the ‘sanctity of vote’ as it was linked to security, prosperity and development of the country.
Addressing a ‘sanctity of vote’ seminar in Islamabad, the thrice prime minister said that only the people had right to entrust a person with the leadership of the country, adding that the history of Pakistan wasn’t very pleasing.
“Democracy is the name of the rule of masses,” he added.
Nawaz underscored that a campaign for the restoration of vote’s sanctity had to be run as it was linked to the country’s security, prosperity and development. The youth will have to become vanguards in this campaign, he added.
The former premier also announced not to give party tickets to politicians switching loyalties for the forthcoming elections.
“We have been given a chance in the form of elections after a few months and those who have been disloyal to the party or voters will not be given tickets,” he said.
Nawaz further stated that he does not face any charges pertaining to corruption or receiving kick-backs.
