LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi on Tuesday said that former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-Q) leader Nawaz Sharif was seeking to meet him and PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
Talking to the media, Elahi said that a person representing Sharif had come to him to arrange a meeting between him and the former premier but he did not take it seriously. He said that his party had created a platform and had invited other parties to come on-board.
He also said that in 2011, PML-Q had raised its voice for a South Punjab province. He also said that he had always worked for the development of South Punjab and used to visit the region every week during his tenure as the Punjab chief minister.
Talking about PML-N’s criticism of the judiciary, he said that Nawaz and his party members were active in propagation against the judiciary.
He said that PML-Q had a good relationship with the people of Peshawar and had the best team in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the result would be before everyone within a few days. He also said that unlike others, they were not in politics for money rather it was the honour of serving the people that kept them involved in politics.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) provincial lawmaker Javed Nasim left PTI and joined PML-Q.
The announcement came after the KP lawmaker, who had been at odds with PTI for several years, reached Shujaat’s residence from Peshawar along with his supporters.
Shujaat and former Punjab chief minister Elahi greeted Nasim and his entourage outside their residence.
The provincial lawmaker said that he had noticed that PML-Q was sincere with the country and announced that he would contest the upcoming elections from PML-Q.
Nasim was elected to the provincial assembly from PK-3, Peshawar in the 2013 general elections.
On Monday, PML-N provincial lawmaker Faisal Farooq Cheema joined PTI. The development followed Cheema’s meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan. Former PTI secretary general Jahangir Tareen was also present in the meeting.
Cheema was elected to the Punjab Assembly (PA) from Sargodha in the 2013 general elections and was from an influential political family in the area.
