Justice Siddiqui says if a judge drinks alcohol, he should be arrested too

ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court (IHC) has remarked that “if a judge drinks alcohol, he should be arrested too”.

He gave these remarks while reprimanding Islamabad IGP Sultan Azam Taimuri during the course of hearing of fast-growing lawlessness in Islamabad case on Tuesday.

The judge further remarked, “Police do not carry out patrolling at night. Tell the court the name of judges, government officers, moulvis and other persons who drink alcohol and take drugs. This is the capital of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

Justice Siddiqui inquired from the IGP why 90 per cent of the police was corrupt.

The IGP informed the court that the FIR against IHC registrar had been registered mistakenly. “If I am removed from service, I will not grieve and I will not rest till the cleansing of the police department,” he added.

Justice Siddiqui remarked that the IGP and SSP should tell what action had been taken against brothels and alcohol shops. “Islamabad has become a hub of criminals and drug peddlers. Lady police personnel are crying throughout Pakistan,” the judge added.

The court, while ordering IGP Taimuri to work out a comprehensive report on drugs and lawlessness in the city and file it in the court, adjourned the hearing of the case for 15 days.
