Husband axes wife to death in Sujawal for not preparing dinner on time

SUJAWAL: A 50-year-old woman was axed to death by her husband in Sujawal district, Sindh, on Sunday night reportedly for not serving him dinner on time.

Yar Mohammad Jatoi murdered his wife Kori Jatoi when she did not serve him dinner while he was hungry. The incident took place in Budho Khan Jatoi village.

“In a fit of anger [for not preparing dinner on time], I attacked my wife and killed her on the spot,” confessed the culprit after he surrendered to the police.

A local news source was informed by Head Muharrar Mushtaq Ali that a First Information Report (FIR) of the incident has been registered under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against Yar Mohammad Jatoi, on the complaint of the deceased Kori Jatoi’s brother Sahib Dino.

Violence against women is a way of life in Pakistan. Incidents of women being murdered due to minor domestic issues are reported every now and then.

In 2016, a man was found guilty of murdering his daughter who failed to make a ‘gol roti’. In the same year, a man axed his wife for not making tea quickly.

A report by Sindh’s women development department in April 2018 shows that a total of 1,643 cases of various types of violent acts — from honour killing, custody of children and maintenance — were filed by women from across the province since July 2017.
