ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC), in a historical verdict, on Friday disqualified former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for life, under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, who was heading the five-member bench, remarked before the verdict was announced that the public deserves “leaders of good character”.
Article 62(1)(f) reads: “A person shall not be qualified to be elected or chosen as a member of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) unless-…he is sagacious, righteous and non-profligate, Sadiq and Ameen, there being no declaration to the contrary by a court of law.”
The historic judgement which has sealed the politic fate of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has sparked an intense debate on Twitter and supporters of PML-N and Nawaz have taken to the social media site to express their support and love for “their leader.” However, some have also decided to use this hashtag as a joke.
