Insult to injury: NAB summons Nawaz Sharif on 21st

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sent a summon to Nawaz Sharif on Friday over the construction of a road leading to the Jati Umra residence of the Sharif family.

According to a summons served to the ex-premier, the Lahore office of NAB took notice of his alleged abuse of power as the chief executive of the country, just a few hours after the top court rolled out a lifetime disqualification order against him in terms of holding public office.

Earlier in the day, both Sharif and PTI’s Jehangir Tareen became ineligible to ever hold public office when the Supreme Court (SC) ruled that disqualification under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution is for life.

Nawaz Sharif has been asked to appear before the ‘combined investigation team’ of NAB on April 21, said a notification issued by NAB.

The Lahore NAB alleged that Nawaz in connivance with his younger brother Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif, constructed the Jati Umra road by abusing powers as the premier back in 1998.

The notification also mentioned that the width of the road was increased from 20ft to 24ft which resulted in cost escalation of the project in the alleged ‘personal benefit’.

It also claimed that the district council Lahore had to drop various other projects of the public welfare at the cost of Nawaz Sharif’s ‘illegal’ directives.

According to NAB’s investigation, Nawaz being the then chief executive of the country had used his ‘undue influence’ on local administration for his ‘personal’ project.
