JHELUM: A woman has been killed by her family in Pind Dadan Khan district of Jhelum for contracting a freewill marriage.

Shagufta, a resident of Jalalpur Sharif, sought to marry a man named Hussain.Upon her family’s refusal to allow her to wed the man of her choosing, Shagufta had run away to Hussain’s house.

Similarly, on April 7, a brother killed his eight months pregnant sister for contracting a marriage of her own will in Sindh’s Khairpur district.

The victim, a mother of one, had willingly married a man from a caste different than hers in a court of Sukkur in August 2016 without her family’s approval and her action irked her brother who killed her.
