Sindh’s tax recovery jumps to Rs47206 mn, says minister

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control (ETNC) Mukesh Kumar Chawla said on Thursday that during the current fiscal year’s nine months from July 2017 to March 2018, the department has recovered Rs47206 million in under the head of various taxes while in the same period last financial year, only Rs42189 million were recovered.

“We are surely ahead of our target that shows the hardworking and commitment of our officers and officials,” he said while presiding over a meeting here at his office. The ETNC’s secretary Abdul Haleem, Director General Narcotics Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and other officers also attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that Rs5275million were collected in motor vehicle tax, Rs36180 million in term of infrastructure cess, Rs287 million in professional tax and Rs171 million in cotton fee, Rs1600 million in property tax, Rs41 million in entertainment duty and other amounts in heads of various taxes.

He expressed his satisfaction over department’s performance and asked the officers to try to get to the targets before the end of the current fiscal year. He said that with hard work and dedication, we can achieve our goals earlier and for the purpose, the staff would be rewarded accordingly.
