A local court handed over the primary accused, Tariq Jatoi, in Larkana singer Samina Sindhu murder case on a seven-day remand to the police on Thursday.
The alleged assailant had gunned the victim down during a wedding ceremony April 10 after declined to perform a particular kind of dance, a private TV channel reported. It was later learned that singer was also pregnant at the time of her death.
Local sources disclosed that Jatoi had ordered her at gunpoint to entertain his wishes, had ordered her to stand up and dance, instead of singing while sitting.
Although she did stand up, she refused to dance on stage in front of the audience after which the alleged assailant shot the locally famous singer. Sindhu died on the spot.
The victim’s husband called it a ‘double homicide’. A video of the incident also went viral following the incident in which Sindhu can be seen singing on the stage.
Larkana Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Abdullah Sheikh claimed that the weapon used to murder the singer has been recovered and a First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Kanga police station after a medical test of the accused was ordered.
Talking about the future course of action, he said that the police would soon launch a full-fledged investigation following the result of medical reports. He also said that the videos of the incident would also likely be made a part of the investigation.
