World’s social safety nets should work in a coordinated manner: Marvi

ISLAMABAD: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Marvi Memon on Tuesday said that social safety nets across the world should work in a well-coordinated manner to achieve the common objective of eradicating poverty.

She said this while talking to Dominican Republic’s Vice President Dr Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez during a meeting held at the National Palace in Santo Domingo.

Dr Fernandez thanked Marvi for accepting the invitation to visit Dominican Republic to exchange the progressive learning of successful programmes being implemented in both countries.

Marvi also appreciated the work done by the Dominican Republic government for serving the poorest of the poor segment of the society. She appreciated the Dr Fernandez’s personal efforts to make the programme a success by introducing targeted subsidies.

Dr Fernandez lauded the efforts made by BISP to eradicate poverty from the country by providing targeted financial assistance to 5.7 million families.
