  • Says Nisar’s opposition was on Shehbaz’s directives

LAHORE: Zubair Mehmood, former secretary of Shehbaz Sharif’s wife Tehmina Durrani, on Tuesday claimed that Shehbaz Sharif did not want Maryam Nawaz to lead Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after Nawaz Sharif’s ouster in Panama Papers case.

He also said that former interior minister Chaudhary Nisar’s outspoken opposition to Nawaz Sharif was choreographed by Shehbaz himself. “Chaudhry Nisar was opposing the party leadership on the directives of Shehbaz,” he said while talking to a private media channel.

Mehmood further said Durrani informed him that Nisar met Shehbaz more than two dozen times at her residence in which both she and Nisar advised him to resign from the party.

He also said that Shehbaz used to say that he would make way for himself from ‘behind the curtains’, and not by coming on the front scene. He also claimed to have a record of his communication with her boss via SMS and phone calls.

He said that Durrani told him to have this record of communication and write it after 10 years. However, he announced to launch a book in the next four months that would contain all the information about his dealing and encounters with Tehmina on the issues related to the dispute in the Sharif family.

DURRANI REACTS TO ALLEGATIONS:

Tehimina Durrani, while talking to the same private media channel, denied the allegations levelled by Mehmood and termed the incidents ‘planted’.

She said Nisar is like a ‘family member’ who she has known long before she knew Nawaz Sharif. Durrani categorically denied the alleged clandestine meetings between Shehbaz and Nisar at her residence.

Talking about her former secretary, she said that he belonged to a poor family but she never considered him as her servant. She said she also funded his parents to go and perform Umrah.

She claimed no one could blackmail her. She clarified that she does not have any political affiliation and is not affiliated with PML-N in any official capacity.
