The case prevented more than 190 primary schools to start teaching without the textbooks as they could not be printed on time. FDE Director General Hasnat Qureshi said that the textbooks will be available within the next 10 days.

According to Qureshi “Due to the litigation between the ministry and authors, we were unable to place orders for publishing the books as we had no idea which books are going to be introduced. Today the court has given its verdict and we are going to place orders immediately.”

The education ministry had sought to hire authors to write the textbooks but those who were previously writing with the NBF successfully obtained a stay order against fresh hirings, complaining that they would lose their jobs.

“Today, we came to know that the court has decided in favour of the education ministry so we are going to place orders for the primary school books,” said Qureshi.

“During the first week of the academic session the attendance always remains thin while in many schools we have old books (based on the previous curriculum) so the teachers will use them until the new books are printed,” he added.
