ISLAMABAD: A plea seeking the dismissal of Lal Masjid case against former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf has been rejected by a sessions court in Islamabad.
Advocate Akhtar Shah submitted the plea against the 2007 case. Ghazi Abdul Rasheed case also underwent a similar appeal.
A detailed verdict on the case would be released later.
Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Yawar Ali has been nominated as head of a three-member bench by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar to hold a treason trial of Pervez Musharraf. The primary charge in the case is subversion of the Constitution over the imposition of emergency on November 3, 2007.
Sindh High Court (SHC) Judge Nazar Akbar and Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) Justice Tahira Safdar are the other two nominated members of the bench.
The bench previously ordered Musharraf’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and passport to be suspended on March 8.
The former president is currently residing in Dubai but has not traveled to Pakistan due to security concerns despite publicly demonstrating his desire to do so.
