TEHRAN: The top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, on Tuesday described a strike on a military airbase in Syria as “Israel’s crime” and said it “will not remain without response”, the Lebanese al-Mayadeen channel reported.
Ali Akbar Velayati was speaking upon his arrival in the Syrian capital Damascus, reported al-Mayadeen, which is well connected in government-held parts of Syria.
The Israeli strike on a Syrian air base occurred on Sunday night, Russia and Syria have alleged. The Iranian threat comes as tensions over Syria play out in the UN Security Council over the alleged chemical weapons attack by Assad’s forces. US President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of a military action and neither has France though Russia has warned of “grave consequences” for such a strike.
