Journalists to start protest in Islamabad for wage award: report

ISLAMABAD: Leaders of the journalists’ union and their colleagues from all over the country have started to come to Islamabad on call of Afzal Butt group-led Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) to press the federal government to accept their long-standing demands, reported a local English newspaper.

Numerous political leaders have extended their support for their demands pertaining to the legislation of salary structure for electronic media employees, the constitution of 8th wage award, and putting an end to the contract system.

According to PFUJ, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was briefed by Afzal Butt, urged the government to look into the issues of journalists but nothing has been done so far.
