The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Geng Shuang on Monday praised Pakistan’s sincere efforts towards finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing Afghan war. He said the steps being taken by Pakistan will create a peaceful regional environment.

The statement follows Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s first visit to Afghanistan’s capital Kabul last week. During the visit, the prime minister agreed on working towards establishing regional peace through connectivity during his meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

“The visit of the Pakistani prime minister to Afghanistan is an important step for the two countries and an opportunity to improve their relations through cooperation and dialogues,” Shuang said during a recent press conference.

The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman also said that it was a positive sign to witness that both Pakistan and Afghanistan had reached a consensus on many fronts, including on the Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS), enhancing regional connectivity and working towards ending the Afghan war.

He further said that since China was a friend to both Pakistan and Afghanistan, it would continue to play a constructive role in promoting cooperation between the two countries.

PM Abbasi reached China on Monday morning to address the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference as a keynote speaker.
