MUMBAI: The Dwayne Bravo show
While Dwayne Bravo was at the crease, the batsmen at the other end scored 12 off 12 balls, while he made 68 off 30 balls. It fetched him an incredible Smart Strike Rate of 343.14, the highest for the day.
Bravo’s death-overs exploits with the ball were on show as well: he came back from conceding 14 runs off his first over, before delivering a death-bowling masterclass with figures of 3-0-11-0 in the 16th, 18th and 20th overs. These were worth their weight in gold, considering the 17th and 19th overs went for 36 runs. As a result, Bravo’s Smart Economy Rate was an astonishing 3.86, underscoring his value far more than his economy rate of 6.25.
Markande’s googlies fox Super Kings
Legspinner Mayank Markande’s figures of 4-0-23-3 were the second best for a Mumbai Indians debutant – after Lasith Malinga’s 3 for 15 – and he exposed a key weakness in Super Kings’ batting order. Since the 2015 IPL season, Super Kings’ current batsmen have fallen 25 times to googlies for just 264 runs, at a strike rate of 90.91. Markande’s nine googlies and 11 dot balls earned him a Smart Economy Rate of 4.33, behind Deepak Chahar, Bravo and Hardik Pandya.
Krunal Pandya fires for Mumbai
Krunal smashed an unbeaten 41 off 22 balls to revive Mumbai after a jittery start and lead them to 165. Before this match, he was among IPL’s top five fastest starters, with a strike rate of 141.5 off his first ten balls since 2015. Krunal was even faster today, with 19 runs off his first ten. He went on to smash 16 off 5 balls in Mark Wood’s 19th over, finishing with a Smart Strike Rate of 264.83, the second best in the match, behind Bravo.
