- Says PPP will win upcoming elections
MULTAN: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari slammed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) for bearing same ideology that abhors the masses and favours the elite as compared to PPP which has always served the people.
Addressing workers convention of the party in Multan, the PPP chairman urged the party workers to spread party’s message among the people in every nook and corner as the elections are approaching, adding that it’s time to cater to the people who have suffered most at the hands of PML-N and PTI.
“Both these parties are right-winged and follow anti-people policies despite apparent rifts and only focus on country’s premiership.”
Bilawal went on to say that PPP in 2009 launched the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) which facilitates the impoverished, particularly the women. PPP’s Sindh government has also launched a union council based poverty reduction programme, which has so far pulled out 600,000 families from stark poverty, he added.
“This programme also lends mostly to women on an interest-free basis so that they can plan for their better future and live a stable and self-reliant life,” the PTI chairman said.
Bilawal also spoke about a province for the people of Southern Punjab and assured them that he would keep visiting them frequently so that he could meet the party workers and convey the message of the party to the masses.
Criticising PML-N, Bilawal said that the ruling party’s government has ruined country’s national institutions. “It has ruined Pakistan Steel Mills and PIA, which once used to be world’s number one airline.”
He further said that under PPP, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto carried out land reforms and snatched big lands from the feudal and distributed them among the poor peasants. The PPP is the party of peasants, workers, students and masses, he added.
He also urged the party workers to participate in ‘join PPP campaign’ and attract maximum members for the party.
Former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Nayar Hussain Bukhari, Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Natasha Daultana, Haider Zaman Qureshi, Khwaja Rizwan, Shaukat Basra, Abdul Qadir Shaheen and others were also present on the occasion.
Furthermore, Bilawal also chaired the PPP Punjab Executive Committee meeting to discuss political strategy for the next general elections.
The PPP chairman directed party leaders to establish membership camps at a maximum number of sites in the province so that the people could get the membership. He added that the party would be strengthened at the grass-roots level, and stressed the workers to launch election campaign with full might.
The meeting participants also discussed probable candidates for the upcoming elections in South Punjab.
Separately, PPP chairman said that his party will win general elections as it has always focused on resolving the real issues of people, while PTI has always done politics of confrontation and could not keep the focus on real issues.
That’s why people will reject PTI in general elections, he added.
The PPP chairman expressed these views while talking to the media during his visit to the residence of Chief Election Commission (CEC) ex-member Malik Altaf Khokhar in Multan, and inquired after his health.
In reply to a question, Bilawal said there was a need to increase the number of taxpayers in the country.
He said that the PPP had established cardiology hospitals in various cities of Sindh. Similarly, the Sindh government provided interest-free loans and steered six lakh families from poverty, he added.
The PPP chief hoped that the people would vote in favour of the PPP in the next general elections, adding that the PPP wanted peaceful and progressive Pakistan.
Terming Imran Khan an expert of U-turns, Bilawal said that politics of Imran Khan had been exposed during the last five years.
About his recent three day visit to Multan, Bilawal said that he was visiting South Punjab with an objective to speed up membership campaign process in the region.
