The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Saturday announced to blacklist the supplier of sugar sachets to the airline after it was noticed that they had an incorrect manufacturing date.

Picture of a sugar sachet given to a passenger on a PIA flight and with “July 2018” written as the manufacturing date went viral on social media early this week.

“PIA administers strict Standard Operating Procedures for its flight kitchen. Customers and their wellbeing is a high priority. The batch of sugar sachets with wrong manufacturing date has been returned back to the supplier after a thorough inspection of the available stock. The supplier has been blacklisted and a legal notice has been issued with PIA reserving the right to claim damages,” the airline explained in a statement.

PIA Chief Executive Officer and President Musharraf Rasool Cyan has ordered inspection of all food items at the flight kitchen.

An inquiry is still going against the negligence of those who are responsible for the sugar sachets’ distribution, the statement released by PIA said.

The airline has drawn criticism from passengers for allegedly offering low-quality food on flights previously too.
