LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha on Saturday said that the youth are full of talent and they must play their role to bring the country out of challenges.
She expressed these views on the occasion of the degree-awarding ceremony of University of the Punjab (PU) Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) here at PU Faisal Auditorium.
PU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Zakria Zakar, renowned journalists Hamid Mir, Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori, Dr Shafiq Jullandhry, Dr Mehdi Hassan, Sajjad Mir, Salman Ghani, Mian Habib, Dr AR Khalid, ICS In-charge Dr Noshina Saleem, Dr Rubina Zakir, Controller of Examinations Dr Sajid Rashid, PU Academic Staff Association President Dr Mehboob Hussain, Secretary Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Trust Raja Asad Ali Khan, Shabbir Sarwar, students and their parents were present on the occasion.
In her address, Dr Ayesha congratulated the graduating students and said that Pakistan is passing through a difficult time due to internal and external challenges but it is hoped that our graduating youth would serve the country in a better way as compared to the previous generation.
She said Pakistan so far could not get a position and respect in the comity of nations which it really deserves given its geopolitical location, minerals, wealth and human resource potentials. “We have tried to contribute our part, now it’s the responsibility of you graduates to take make Pakistan towards prosperity and progress by contributing your part in the national development,” she said.
PU VC Dr Zakar advised the students to abide by the journalistic code of ethics in their professional lives. The VC appreciated the ICS administration for setting the new tradition of taking oath from the graduates.
He congratulated the students and their parents for their achievements and expressed his hope that these graduates would be an addition to the human resource of the country.
A total 360 students of various disciplines of ICS including BS (Hons), MSc (Morning, Replica), MSc Development Journalism, MSc Film & TV, MPhil Research Track, MPhil Professional Track were awarded degrees while 35 distinguished graduates were awarded PU ICS and Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Medals.
Senior retired teachers who served ICS were presented with special appreciation shields for their meritorious services for the institution.
