Without NoC, two UoP faculty members on leaves

PESHAWAR: The two faculty members of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department of the University of Peshawar are on leaves without No Objection Certificate (NoC).

Professor Altafullah Khan is on one year fellowship in the United States and the other gentleman is abroad for PhD since few years. But as per the request under the Right to Information Act 2013, “No one [teacher] is on leave from the Journalism and Mass Communication Department”.

Both of the teachers didn’t follow the rules and regulations of the university, despite of long or study leaves they are getting their perks, privileges and teachers incentives on regular basis. University’s Public Relation Officer Ali Imran said that there were rules for long leaves.

“Everyone has to take prior NoC from the management,” he added. Few years early, Prof Altafullah was residing at Germany while was on good seat of an international media organisation. It is pertinent to mention that due to shortage of the teachers at the department, the university didn’t announce Mphil and PhD admission.

On the condition of anonymity, a student revealed that research of present scholars at the department was very slow and for years the students could not get their degrees. He said that huge fine would have to be paid by the enroll scholars before getting their degrees.

RTI application disclosed that the university annual deficit budget has reached to millions of rupees and the deficit increases with the passage of time. But many of the teachers are getting their salaries and other allowances in millions of rupees from public exchequer without taking NoC from the university management.
