KABIRWALA: Special Protection Unit (SPU) personnel and Chinese engineers who are working on the Motorway-4 project near Kabirwala, who indulged in a verbal and physical brawl earlier this week, on Saturday reconciled their differences.

According to media reports, both parties decided to bury the hatch after a meeting at Kabirwala.

The Chinese officials found guilty of starting the fight offered their apologies to police personnel.

On April 4, Chinese engineers, working on the M-4 motorway, and the police team, deputed for their protection, got into a tussle in Khanewal.

The incident that took place in Kabirwala tehsil of Khanewal was caught on camera and a video footage has been making rounds on the social and mainstream media.

The argument started with only verbal aggression but soon progressed to a physical fight. Reportedly, the Chinese citizens were trying to leave their camp without security and were advised against it; however, they proceeded to leave and were stopped by the police which exasperated the Chinese who then picked a fight with them.

Project Engineer Danny hurled a chair at the squad in-charge, while one of his colleagues climbed on top of a police mobile and later on they cut off electricity supply to the police camp. However, the police tried to contain the situation by locking the Chinese citizens in their camps.

Meanwhile, on April 6, Khanewal District Police Officer (DPO) Rizwan Umar Gondal recommended to the Punjab government deportation of five officials, including the country project manager of the foreign company.

The DPO conducted an inquiry and declared the Chinese workers responsible for the unruly situation which led to Wednesday’s untoward incident. He urged the government to declare five of them persona non grata and also proposed that the SPU personnel may also be shifted from the Noorpur camp.
