Democratic process must go on for progress: Governor

Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair said Saturday that successful completion of electoral process and establishment of next government would usher a new era in the history of the country and we must all play our roles in this regard.

This he said while talking to an eight-member delegation of Karachi Press Club (KPC) here on Saturday. The delegation members included President Ahmed Khan Malik, Secretary Maqsood Ahmed Yousufi, Treasurer Moosa Kaleem and members of Governing body Abul Hasan, Kafeel-ud-Din Faizan, Naeem Akbar Sahoutara, Shams Keerio and Ms Shazia Hasan. Nasir Mahmood were also present there.

Matters regarding freedom of press, political & economic situation of the country, problems being confronted by journalists, performance of Karachi Press Club, grant for KPC also came under discussion during the meeting. He said that it was very fortunate that second successive parliament was completing its term and despite all rumours senate elections were held on time. The next general elections would ensure formation of new government which would inherit strong economy and improved law and order, to accelerate the pace of development of the country, he added.

The government said that today’s Pakistan was totally different from the previous one. The two main problems faced by the country five years ago have been resolved which have resulted in investment in every sector of the economy, he observed.

He further said that continuation of democratic process was the most essential ingredient for the progress of economy. ‘If the policies continued for a foreseeable future, the economy flourish and investments are made in huge numbers’, he observed.

The governor further added that tough decisions were required for making the economy stable and strong. Initiatives taken by the present government were reflection of its commitment in this regard, he opined

Commenting on the tax amnesty announced by the prime minister, while answering a question, he said that all major business and trade bodies were on board on this amnesty. Investors and businessmen have fully endorsed this scheme which would be helpful in boosting the economy of the country further, he added.

While emphasising upon the role of media, he said that media has the huge responsibility of guiding the masses towards right path, during the electoral process. It must highlight the economic policies of main political parties to ensure that masses cast their votes for the best party for the future of Pakistan, he added.

He said that media as an opinion builder has a huge responsibility which it must discharge with total commitment, honesty and dedication. News and analysis based on facts and reality must be conveyed to the masses without ifs and buts, as it was their right, he added.

He said that it was also the obligation of voters to choose the best candidates during next general elections according to their performance of the past. They have a choice as three different parties have governments in three provinces, he opined.

KPC Secretary Maqsood Yousufi asked the governor to convey Shahbaz Sharif to address meet the press at KPC during his proposed visit of Karachi, which he agreed to convey.
