CWG hockey: Pakistan come from behind to clinch 2-2 draw against India

GOLD COAST: Pakistan came from behind to clinch a last minute 2-2 draw against India during 2018 Commonwealth hockey match between the arch-rivals on Saturday.

At halftime, Dilpreet Singh and Harmanpreet Singh scored for India, while in the third-quarter Irfan Jr scored for Pakistan, with Ali Mubashar scoring the last second penalty to level the game.

Indian player Dilpreet Singh scored the first goal of the match when 40 seconds remained in the first quarter. India dominated the first quarter, with Pakistan having a shot which hit the crossbar.

In the second quarter, Pakistan’s Muhammad Atiq was shown yellow card and India looked to make most of it.

On its third penalty corner, India scored a second goal as Harmanpreet Singh sent the ball in goal defeating Pakistani goalkeeper with ease, leading the game 2-0.

After being dominated for first two-quarters, Pakistan started to pull back in the game as Irfan Jr tapped the ball after Rizwan’s shot dodged India’s PR Sreejesh.

With seven seconds left in the match, Pakistan was awarded the seventh penalty corner. Some last minute drama ensued the missed penalty corner as Pakistan claimed the ball hit the defender’s foot.

The video officials gave the verdict in favour of Pakistan and eighth penalty corner was awarded to green shirts, with Ali Mubashir scoring to level the game in the last second.
